What does New Years look like in Japan

New years in Japan is a very special time for Japanese people. For many Japanese, they will usually have the 1st to the 4th off, and during this time, many people travel back to their childhood homes. On the first in the morning, many people wake up early to see the first sunrise of the year, known in Japanese as 初日の出 (Hatsu-hinode). As well as watching the first sunrise, many Japanese people visit shrines to say thanks for the last year of good health and pray that this year will also be good. This is known as 初詣 (Hatsu-mode).

New years food in Japan is called おせち料理 (Osechi-ryori) and is what most families in Japan will eat over the New Years period. It usually is filled with a lot of various different foods, from vegetables to fried chicken, fish to Japanese omlette. It is the perfect way for Japanese people to start off the year, and it goes very well with sake too!

We hope that you found this an interesting read, and we, at Yae Seed, will continue to promote the wonder and charm of Japan to all of our customers around the world. Once again, we hope you have a great 2025 and we look forward to your patronage.
